COVID-19 vaccine Oxford-AstraZeneca and blood clotting

Recently there have been reports of an extremely rare but serious condition involving blood clots and unusual bleeding after AstraZeneca (AZ) vaccination.  The national committee which recommends on vaccines has therefore recommended that patients under 40 years are no longer offered this vaccine for their first dose. If you have already had a first dose of AZ vaccine without suffering this rare side effect you should still complete the course with the AZ vaccine for your second dose, even if you are under 40.  For more information please see https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-vaccination-and-blood-clotting/covid-19-vaccination-and-blood-clotting

News:

New Extended Hours Service - Need to see a GP or nurse in the evening or on a weekend? GPs in Derwentside are working together to offer extra GP and Nurse appointments from 6.30pm on weekday evenings and from 09:30am on Saturday and Sunday mornings. The clinics are held at Tanfield View Medical Group. To book an 'Extended Hours' appointment please contact your surgery Monday-Friday 08.30-5.00. When your surgery is closed, please call 111 to access these clinics. If you need to cancel an appointment, after your own surgery has closed, please ring 07548 652124

Throughout the pandemic we have strived to make the surgery as safe as possible for all our patients and staff. We will continue to do so going forward.  From the 19th July nothing will change at the surgery - patients will need to still wear a mask, socially distance and use hand sanitiser in the surgery and staff will continue to wear PPE.  We do understand that it can be frustrating but we know that when people come to us they are sick and vulnerable (and some cannot receive the Covid vaccinations due to medical reasons) so we feel it would be wrong to not take these small precautions that can protect people.

In terms of opening up, we are still keen to prevent unnecessary foot-fall in the practice, so we still continue to operate as we have been doing for the last 15 months. Please do not attend the practice if you do not have an appointment.  Please ring us first and we will make sure your query is dealt with quickly, safely and appropriately.  If the phone lines are busy, please keep trying.  We are dealing with an increased amount of consultations, far more than we did pre-Covid. We have increased our telephone lines to accommodate this so please bear with us.  The Stanley Community has come so far in trying to minimise the impact of Covid and we hope you understand that we need to continue with this, and keep the surgery safe for ALL patients and staff.

We have introduced a cancellation line to make it easier for you to cancel an appointment that you no longer need. Ring 01207 285800 – as soon your call is connected ( you needn’t wait for the announcement to finish) - PRESS 1 on your keypad – you will then be asked to leave details of your appointment on an answerphone which is answered in less than 5 minutes.
